The Tax Department, is involved primarily in the
structuring from a tax perspective of corporate and other business
organizations, as well as business transactions, in a manner that
minimizes the tax consequences of conducting business in Puerto Rico,
while at the same time optimizing the tax benefits available under both
federal and Commonwealth law. The Department has also been engaged in the
structuring from a tax perspective of international ventures by Puerto
Rico based entities, as well as in the structuring of international
transactions in general.

On an
individual level, the Tax Department engages in effective estate planning,
again under both Federal and Commonwealth law. It has also developed a
recognized expertise in the area of ERISA, or employee benefit plans
subject to federal regulation.
It
has also been engaged in the establishment of trusts under the laws of the
Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, taking advantage of the Puerto Rico tax
incentives made available for U.S. citizens who are not residents of
Puerto Rico.
