The Labor Department concentrates
in assisting our clients' management personnel to comply with
federal and local Labor Laws, as well as in establishing a substantial
working knowledge of the law within management in order to accomplish its business goals in Puerto Rico with
minimal employee grievances. This Department has effectively defeated
union organizational efforts in diverse business sectors, such as in the
hospitality industry, in hospitals (both public and private), and in the
manufacturing as well as in the service sectors. It has developed and
implemented successful employer campaigns against union drives. More
significantly, it has decertified existing unions in the hotel industry,
in retail businesses, in agriculture, and in the general service sector.
Finally, the Labor Department has participated with success in
collective bargaining negotiations, alongside management, in the hotel
industry and in other public and private business settings.
In the area of labor litigation, the
Labor Department has responded with quick, aggressive defense strategies in a
variety of cases, with positive results for management. In particular our litigating attorneys
have championed our
employer clients' defenses against employee claims of discrimination based
on age, sex, religion and/or national origin. Frequently, these claims have been
dismissed in their early stages, without the need for trial, due to the
effectiveness of our labor specialists in the use of pre-trial discovery
mechanisms and dispositive motion practice.
The Labor Department also engages in preventive
strategies that allow management to avoid costly labor related mistakes.
The Labor Department sponsors periodic in-
house seminars or
work-shops in order to train and instruct management personnel in the
effective handling of employee grievances.
