The Immigration
Division of the Corporate Department, responds to
the needs of our clients engaged in international trade, who often seek to
transfer foreign employees to their operations in the Commonwealth of
Puerto Rico or the continental United States and/or who seek
the talents
of foreign
professionals for special projects in Puerto Rico. This department has
obtained investor visa status for many foreign nationals who have chosen
to invest in the mainland USA or in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico in order to enjoy the tax
incentives and other benefits available under Puerto Rico and federal law.
Recently, this Department obtained U.S. permanent resident status for a
prominent South American
businessman based on his investment of slightly more than $3,000,000 in
Puerto Rico's only CD-ROM manufacturing plant.

The
Immigration department also processes family-based immigration petitions
for individual clients, as well as applications for U.S. citizenship. It
provides legal advice to our corporate clients with respect to their
record-keeping responsibilities under the Immigration and Nationality Act
of the United States, as they relate to U.S. and foreign workers. Lastly,
the Immigration Department
has successfully litigated several cases of significance against
the Immigration and Nationality Service (the INS) in the federal courts of
the United States, resulting in U.S. immigration benefits for the
executives and/or managers of the multinational businesses that we
represent.
