The General Corporate Department, serves as the axis that integrates the various other departments of the Firm in the joint management and direction of our clients' diverse legal needs. It regularly spearheads the Firm's coordinated efforts to achieve the prompt and successful resolution of legal problems, first by identifying those areas of the law which require immediate attention and then by summoning the intervention and participation of specialists from within the Firm whose talents are best suited to addressing and resolving specific problems.

This department provides day to day general  corporate  advice  to corporations, both large and small. It attends to legal issues that corporate clients confront in the ordinary course of their business operations, as well as outside the ordinary course of affairs. It assists clients in the identification and solution of problem areas, as well as with the negotiation, drafting, and execution of contracts; in recognizing potential tax problems or ramifications, and analyzing and resolving general tax exemption and contractual matters; and finally, in navigating the complex permitting processes before Commonwealth and federal governmental agencies. It also introduces clients to the idiosyncrasies of the Puerto Rican business and legal environment. Frequently, it engages in lobbying efforts on behalf of the Firm's clients before both the executive and legislative branches of the Government of Puerto Rico.

The Corporate Department has served as counsel to a corporate client in the privatization of the San Juan Municipal Solid Waste Management Authority, a significant endeavor even by continental United States standards.

This department has also been an active participant in the legal planning and structuring of various corporate operations, resulting in the world, continental or regional leadership positions for some of our corporate institutional clients.

"The General Corporate Department is the catalyst for fusing the clients' needs with the professional resources available within the Firm. It is the threshold through which our clients gain full access to the Firm's panoply of legal services."
